Adaptive mastery

Progress that waits for enough evidence.

Children see stars and a growing map. Underneath, the engine keeps a stricter ledger: how much evidence, how recent, how confident.

The right starting pitch

A new skill begins with a small warm-up, then the ladder moves toward the learner's working level instead of grinding through every easy variant.

Enough practice first

Mastery waits for enough on-target evidence. One lucky streak doesn't count.

Readiness stays honest

The child's display stays encouraging. The underlying readiness measure tracks recent evidence and doesn't inflate.

How the ladder works

Practice adapts inside each skill.

Difficulty centre

Each question type has a current centre. Correct answers nudge it up; a miss makes the next question a little easier. That only tunes the next question; earned stars never go backwards.

Challenging, not frustrating

Practice settles where a child gets most questions right but still has to think, and it moves with them as they grow.

Skill-level confidence

The mastery decision pools evidence across active templates and asks whether there is enough confidence that the learner can handle the target work.

Practice volume counts

Mastery also needs a minimum amount of real practice. Accuracy alone isn't enough.

For learners building foundations

If a learner is not yet ready for the top of a grade band, the ladder can serve easier work and still let successful practice move the bar. The visible journey keeps momentum while the mastery signal stays careful.

For learners ready to accelerate

Capable learners can climb quickly toward the target level, then meet richer reasoning, challenge previews and rechart work that keeps mastered skills active over time.

After mastery

Stars stay earned

Mastery stars are milestones: once earned, they don't get taken away. Readiness is tracked separately underneath.

Recharts return later

Mastered skills become rechartable on a 3, 7, 14, 30 and 60 day cadence. Passing earns compass stars beside mastery stars.

Rewards can't buy progress

Coins and cosmetics make progress fun to look at. Skill unlocks and readiness come only from answered questions.
